TGIF

Freddie just told me he liked it when I wear dresses. "You do?" I asked.

"Oh, yes. I can see your legs A LOT better. " Almost inaudibly and with an ornery twinkle in his eye he added, "And I like to look at them."

He has to be the horniest 97-year-old I've ever met.

Running! I went twice so far this week, with a five-miler planned for tomorrow. Yippee!

Photo Friday! A couple of goodies from our Circus Week celebration at the Ridge. Who has more fun than old people?

Happy Weekending!

Overheard

Freddie's daughter picked him up for a doctor's appointment a little bit ago. As they were preparing to leave, the daughter (who treats 97-year-old Freddie way too much like a child, in my opinion) asked him if he should wear a brief. "We have a half-hour car ride, Daddy. What if you have an accident?"

In a tone that I surmise is caused by the exhaustion that accompanies years of being babied by the daughter, Freddie replied: "Well, then you can roll down the window, plug your nose, and I'll stick my ass out the window."

I love old people.

Frisky Freddie

97-year-old Freddie just sang a love song to me as I sat down to visit with him. He told me that singing made him feel happy. I agreed with him, telling him that I often start the day by singing in the shower.

At the word shower, he hesitated only briefly before raising his eyebrows in exaggerated fashion and saying "well, now that is a little out of my jurisdiction."

Whole Lotta Love

"I think you've probably been beautiful your whole life," 97 year-old Freddie just said to me.

"That's the nicest thing anyone has said to me all day," I reply.

"Well, you are beautiful," he kind of sighs before continuing, "Here I am with all this love in me and I've got no way to get it out."

Because I'm getting too old for sibling torture and because Teh Big Bro asked so nice, here are a couple of pics from the Mini Marathon. Unfortunately, I was so busy basking in my PR glory that I forgot I should have been capturing the moment, so this is pretty much it.

(The start kind of reminds me of a Jimmy Buffett concert, only the music isn't as good and the only questionable thing you smell is ben-gay and biofreeze.)

This is my family after the race. We had walkers, runners and some walk/runners. It was great watching everyone finish and catching up after the race. Two of my nieces also participated but are missing from the picture. They had to leave as soon as they finished because the younger niece's prom was that same night. What 17-year-old girl runs a half marathon on the day of her prom!?! MY niece does...in 2:13 no less! (No cream puff girly-girls here!)

Outta Here

We're headed to Portland in the morning! Hopefully we'll get to meet up with some other great blogger-runners while we're out there. So fun! We'll be in Oregon through October 11th....just so no one thinks I got lost somewhere on the marathon course if I don't have the opportunity to post a race recap right away.

Freddie sang "I Love You Truly" to me when I left tonight and said he would count the days until I get back to work. Awwwwwww. I so love my job.

Hasta!

Overheard

I definitely don't need a radio when I can catch all this live right outside my office door.

Freddie's Daughter: "Dad, I'm going to pull the car up and pick you up."

Freddie: "Oh, we're leaving now?"

Freddie's Daughter: "Yes, we need to get going."

Freddie: "Well, then I better go drain the radiator one more time before we leave."

Freddie My Love

I walk in the door this morning, and Freddie (age 96) is on his way out. He has his cane and is wearing his hat (I wish I knew what kind of hat it is called, but the picture will have to provide the visual. Trust me, he's way too cute in it, whatever it's name is.) Anyway, he really is about the most adorable 96-year-old thing you've ever seen.

Me: "Hi Handsome! Whatcha doing?"
Freddie: "Just waiting for you to hug me."

I readily comply and give him a big squeeze. To which Freddie says: "Here I am living with all this beauty, and I'm too damned old to do anything about it!"
